100 day project
On April 2, 2019 I started doing a portrait a day on 3 x 3 inch white post-its. Simple materials: charcoal, blending stump, kneaded eraser and spray fixative.
It was supposed to be an exercise in momentum, process, ditching detail and preciousness. My contribution to the 100 Day Project, a worldwide creative challenge anyone can join every year in Spring. The resulting ephemeral little things, produced in fifteen minutes or less, were perfectly suited for Instagram.
By a few weeks in, they started to gather steam and meaning. Fifteen minutes morphed into half an hour. Who were these people? How much of their inner lives could be captured on a 3 x 3” square?
Dozens are posted on my instagram feed. Here are some of my favorites.
